Fly Young Red – NSFW Video Included.

OK two blog posts in one day!  and as a note: the video is SFW but the lyrics are not.

i follow a gentlemen by the name of TJ Sotomayor on youtube and twitter (and instagram), the guy is pretty fuggin awesome and he says what needs to be said about (yes imma say this word) black persons and because he himself is (as he puts it) “Dark Skinned” he can get away with it unlike if someone like me said it (cuz then i would OBVIOUSLY be racist).

anywho, Mr Sotomayor posted a video by a rapper called Fly Young Red.  it’s called “Throw That Boy-Pussy”.

My initial thoughts are as follows;  Handsome guy singing about  screwing another guy.  Good for him….oooh guys twerking…..and twerking better than many chicks can… nice!

and that is it…. and then i see comments below the video:

comments 1

I refuse to block out their names because they put up their opinion on a social website that can be found by anyone… it is in the public domain, as it were.  Notice how the first comment points out colour…the second uses the “N-Word” and any reference to homosexuality is used in a derogatory term.  WHAT….THE…..FUCK….?

People we are in the year 2014 and you playin like being gay is a bad thing?! Bitch please!  They’re obviously having fun in the video, none of it involves forced grins or movements, OKAY the lyrics leave a lot to be desired but TBH i’ve heard rap songs saying pretty much the same thing about women and they’re more socially acceptable than this track is!

i despise the double standards of society about gender, sexuality and colour (to name a couple) – i thought we were moving forward?!  if these comments are anything to go by some people need to be whacked with the equality stick.

Get a fucking grip!  OH and ANOTHER point i just HAVE to make…. and i really hope someone can answer me this…. That “N-Word”…. why is it OKAY for a PoC to use it and it be acceptable yet “we” (as…well not a PoC) are seen as racists IF we use it.  Surely there can’t be one rule for one group of people and another for another group of people.

and for those who live under a rock:

Nigger is a noun in the English language. The word originated as a neutral term referring to black people, as a variation of the Spanish/Portuguese noun negro, a descendant of the Latin adjective niger (“colour black”).[1] Often used disparagingly, by the mid 20th century, particularly in the United States, it suggested that its target is extremely unsophisticated. Its usage had become unambiguously pejorative, a common ethnic slur usually directed at blacks of Sub-Saharan African descent.

and of course variation…..

Nigga (/ˈnɪɡə/, pronounced identically to nigger in some dialects) is a colloquial term used in Black English Vernacular that began as an eye dialectform of the word nigger (a word originated as a term used in a neutral context to refer to black people, as a variation of the Spanish/Portuguese noun negro, a descendant of the Latin adjective niger, meaning the colour “black”).

In practice, its use and meaning are heavily dependent on context.[4] Presently, the word nigga is used more liberally among younger members of all races and ethnicities in the United States.[5]In addition to African Americans, other ethnic groups have adopted the term as part of their vernacular.

OH HELL NO – can i PLEASE point the fuck out that if i turned around and said to any of my friends that they were “my niggas” i would be shot down as a racist shitbag because, to be blunt, we (and i dont mean anything to do with colour, this encompasses my black friends) have all had a far fucking better upbringing than to use a racial slur as a term of endearment*… i HAVE been called “mah nigga” and it made me so uncomfortable i didn’t know what to say…

i can understand PoC wanting to “take back” that particular term as various religions have done with the Swastika however, if that is so – why do so many people make such a HUGE deal out of the use of the word?  The one thing that pops into my mind is UK Big Brother “n-word controversy” in Season 8.

N-Word controversy

Nine days into the series, Channel 4 was criticised for deciding to air the word “nigger” on their daily highlights show.[133] After the criticism they received for not handling the Celebrity Big Brotherracism allegations properly back in January, they were quick to intervene after Emily used the word in conversation with Charley. On the other hand, Charley and Nicky subsequently used the same contentious word several times, in reference to Emily’s use. No action was seen to be taken against them.[134] After Emily’s disqualification from the competition was announced, 922 viewers complained to Ofcom, the British television regulator, believing that it was unfair.[135] Another 270 people expressed dissatisfaction with Channel 4’s decision to air the word “nigger” uncensored.[135] Parr was invited on BBLB, which also caused disturbances, but postponed her appearance. The press and Dermot presumed she postponed due to the controversy, but as she revealed in her BBLB interview, it was not.

so maybe someone (anyone) can answer me that question….

* i know the term did not start out as a racial slur – as i posted the Latin, Niger, literally means “Colour Black” and it has moved on from there.

OKAY…..i think i covered everything…. i’m pretty much waiting for the fallout from this blog post but… they’re my opinions.
