My Top 5… [[Part 4]]

…Fave Pop Songs!

Part 1 // Part 2 // Part 3 // Part 4 // Part 5

Everyone has those guilty pleasures; whether you bop to Westlife, Backstreet Boys or Take That.  We have those songs that still make us smile, we still know the routines to and we still know all the lyrics.  They may remind us of a fun summer, a snowy winter or a great friendship…. but we all have them.  I’d love to know your guilty pleasures in the comments section.

As always – none of these are in any specific order.

a1 – Be the First to Believe

Here’s a little secret – I was obsessed by a1; my room was wall to floor posters and magazine pictures.  I even had two life size Ben Adams posters – one on my ceiling, one on my door.  I knew every lyric, dance routine, birthday, birthplace, siblings, parents and at one time I had an address for Mark (I never used it – I’m not that kind of fan).

a1 are the band that introduced me to my best friend Irene who is from Norway; so they have a special place in my heart.  There was never a song we didn’t like and we would spend hours dissecting lyrics, videos and learning the routines.  We would also drool over Ben who was a firm fave with his baby face and curtain hair style.

Vengaboys – We Like to Party (The Vengabus)

Another band that I knew the routines for and the lyrics (seriously they weren’t that hard).  Simply put, they were simple pop/dance that was catchy.  You didn’t have to think about it too much.  I never did work out how to pronounce the name; some people said V-engaboys, other’s said B-engaboys.  Whatever, I just wanted to dance.

Blue – Bubblin’

Catchy as hell, great to dance to.  Love the video – especially how absolutely freaking gorgeous Duncan James looked (and still looks…..)… to be fair all four of them look amazing.  I was always a bit confused by the fact Duncan, Lee and Simon are all chill in denim and Anthony is in a suit.  He looks damn sharp, don’t get me wrong.  Just a bit odd.

Jessie J – Do It Like a Dude

Where do I start with this track?  Well it’s the song/video that made me trip over and fall head over heels for Jessie J – I think at that point I also had to admit to myself, if no-one else, that yeah I do like girls.

I love the whole concept of challenging the norms and Jessie definitely did that in the video; no pink dresses and foofy hair found here cuz god damnit women can be tough and sexual “like men” too (well duh).  To be fair other artists have gone down that route too (Christina Aguilera – Dirrty), but I think Jessie J managed to do it better.  What are your thoughts?

Pussycat Dolls – Don’t Cha

Do I really need a deep reason or an explanation as to way, to want to add this to this list?  No? Good! Enjoy.

Honourable Mentions:

Kylie Minogue – Can’t get You Out of My Head // Pink – Get the Party Started // OK GO – Here it Goes Again // Kesha – Tik Tok // Blu Cantrell – Hit ‘Em Up Style (Oops!) // Mya – Case of The Ex // Gwen Stefani – Hollaback Girl // Sean Paul – We Be Burnin’
